About Us

John R. Perkins, or Jack, served in the U.S. Navy as a Refrigerations Mate from 1951 until 1955. He then worked for Murphy Miller Air Conditioning in Chicago from 1955 until 1959. In 1959, Jack was hired by Johnson Brothers here in Phoenix as a refrigeration foreman, and he never left. The J.R. Perkins Company was started officially on April 1, 1960. Jack was duly licensed by the Arizona Registrar of Contractors and by the city of Scottsdale to do business on that date. At that time, if you can imagine, Scottsdale Rd was only paved up to Shea Blvd, above that was only desert! Jack is called Papa by many co-workers and still comes by daily to see how things are going. He still takes on special projects for customers who need an out of the ordinary service that would otherwise be too costly. For example, a customer had a cherished Coke cooler that they had in the family for 50 years. Fixing it was going to be too expensive, but Jack took it to our shop and fixed it over a weekend.

Raised on Long Island, NY, Rich attended Valley Stream South High School and later ASU. He entered the USMC as a 2nd LT in 1977 and became a CH53 helicopter pilot. Rich left the Marines to enter the private sector in 1983 working for Colt Aerospace, Motorola, and the National Guard, once again flying helicopters. Rich retired from the Guard as a LtCol in 1998. While working for Motorola in Maryland, Rich was asked to take over the family business and did so in January of 1994. Rich and his wife, Sue, have 2 daughters. Rich is a NATE certified technician, designs ductwork, and does heat load calculations. He is also a two term past President of the Blue Energy Institute, and is actively growing The J.R. Perkins Company.

Jack's daughter, Sue, works for the company alongside Rich and handles all the accounting. As the office has grown, Sue has brought on additional office co-workers to handle all aspects of the administration of our growing company. Sue listens carefully to our customers and continuously improves and implements new processes to improve the customer experience.

Scott has been with J.R. Perkins Company since 2001 and has been in the air conditioning business for 14 years. He has been involved in all aspects of the industry and is very knowledgable. Acting as our Operations Manager he ensures that all technicians have the right tools, training, materials, and attitude to get the job done right. Scott is an accomplished tech, and acts as a consultant for our field staff and for customers as well. Scott's numerous abilities allow our tech's to do more effective and timely work to satisfy our customers. His efforts have placed The J.R. Perkins Company at the highest level of customer satisfaction. Scott has a wife, Jen, and 2 kids, Hudson and Sofia.

Our family business was started in 1960 by Jack Perkins, we have been serving Scottsdale and its vicinity continuously since that date. We are the longest operating family owned business in this area. All of us at The J.R. Perkins Company love to serve our neighbors and we do our best to treat everyone like family.

Commercial buildings and restaurants were our initial customer base. That has since grown to include residential repairs and replacements. Air conditioning system diagnosis, repairs, ductwork design and remodeling, Indoor Air Quality diagnosis, and complete system engineering and replacement are the mainstay of our current business.
