Thermostats
The thermostat is the wall mounted control that allows the homeowner to adjust temperature within the home. New style thermostats can do much more than that. They can adjust and control humidity, allow you to make remote adjustments, let you know when it is time to change filters or humidification pads, and so much more!
Thermostats for residential air conditioning come in many styles, shapes and have varied features:

Honeywell Vision Pro 3000

Honeywell Vision Pro 8000
Programmable Thermostats:
Used to adjust temperature automatically for different times of day.
Digital Thermostats:
Have larger easy to read faces and generally need batteries as well as a 24 volt circuit to allow them to operate. These thermostats offer much better temperature control and can actually save you money on your utility bill.
Thermostats can be purchased directly from local hardware or home stores, but a word of caution: These thermostats are normally the lower grade available and may not work with your system.
If you plan to "Do It Yourself", be sure you know what type of heating & cooling system you have, i.e. gas furnace, heat pump, electric furnace, dual fuel. Select the thermostat that will properly control your air conditioning system. The helpful person at the store may not be able to help you with this information.
Always Remember
Turn off your system at the breaker or unplug it so there is no risk of inadvertently shorting out the low voltage control circuit. Also, make sure you put all the wires and jumper wires back to the same terminals on the new thermostat. I find it is always best to snip the wires off close to the old thermostat so I can always us it as a guide.
